Environmental

The Environmental Division at the Utah Water Research Laboratory brings together scientists and engineers to better understand and solve environmental challenges. Our team studies how pollutants move through air, soil, and water; develops new tools for monitoring and cleanup; and works on ways to make communities and ecosystems more resilient. From field projects to lab testing and modeling, we’re focused on finding practical, science-based solutions that support a cleaner and healthier environment.

Research Areas

Water Quality

A student works in water

Water Quality research focuses on understanding the sources, movement, and impacts of contaminants in natural and engineered systems. Faculty study chemical, biological, and emerging contaminants in water and related environments to support safer water systems, better treatment strategies, and long-term environmental stewardship.
