Courtney Flint, Associate Director of the Utah Water Research Laboratory at Utah State University
Flint’s work focuses on how people relate to the natural environment in their landscapes, and their capacity for collective action. She leads the Utah Wellbeing Project, which is a partnership with Utah cities and towns to survey community members about various aspects of local wellbeing, including water supply and quality concerns, and she has several active research projects in collaboration with UWRL faculty. Her research provides sound data to support local decisions on land use, natural resource management, and community well-being.
Flint has a long history of collaboration with UWRL faculty on projects related to water data management, environmental water reuse, and water hazards. Her past work includes contributions to large interdisciplinary efforts such as iUTAH and the climate adaptation science graduate training program, and she continues to work on projects supported by the National Science Foundation.
In addition to her research, Flint has contributed to national efforts through service and advisory roles and remains actively engaged in community-based research across Utah. Her work emphasizes collaboration with water users, managers, and local communities to better understand and respond to water-related challenges.
As associate director, Flint will help guide research and collaboration at the UWRL. In her new role, she will focus on building collaborations and supporting research that addresses emerging water challenges in Utah and the Intermountain West.
