In Memoriam: Former UWRL & CEE Professor Gordon Flammer

June 26, 2020 — Renowned UWRL and CEE faculty member Dr. Gordon H. Flammer, 94, passed away on June 14th, 2020 in Mesa, Arizona.

Flammer graduated from Utah State University with a master’s degree in Engineering, and then went on to receive his PhD from the University of Minnesota. He later returned to USU and had a distinguished career in Hydraulic Engineering in both research and teaching. Flammer played an important role in the early days of the UWRL Hydraulics Laboratory, having special interests in fluid mechanics, hydraulics, and hydraulic models.

During his career Flammer spent two years at the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization Graduate School of Engineering in Bangkok, Thailand. He also worked in India and Egypt with USAID (United States Agency for International Development) as well as being a charter member and officer in the American Society of Engineering Education.

UWRL staff and faculty will remember Flammer fondly for his contributions to the lab and his hydraulic research.
