The Utah Water Research Laboratory is committed to community outreach and education, translating complex research into accessible knowledge that informs the public, training future water leaders, and supporting decision-makers.
Education

Education is at the heart of the Utah Water Research Laboratory (UWRL), where hands-on learning and applied research prepare the next generation of water experts. UWRL faculty are joint appointed with departments throughout the College of Engineering and Utah State University, which allows the UWRL to provide students with unique opportunities to work directly on pressing challenges in Utah and around the world. Through faculty mentorship, access to cutting-edge facilities, and involvement in real-world projects, students gain both the technical skills and practical experience needed to become leaders in their respective fields. By linking education, research, and service, the UWRL helps ensure that USU graduates are equipped to address the complex issues of the future.
Outreach

The Utah Water Research Laboratory extends its mission beyond the university through outreach programs that connect research expertise with communities across the state. As Utah’s center for water, the UWRL works with K–12 schools, STEM initiatives, and local organizations to translate technical knowledge into practical learning and community engagement. These efforts also play a key role in informing decision makers and strengthening public understanding of water policy, ensuring that the state’s leaders and citizens alike have access to the best available science as they address Utah’s most pressing challenges.
