Call for Pre-Proposals for Water-Related Research Benefiting Utah
The Utah Center for Water Resources Research (UCWRR) at the Utah Water Research Laboratory (UWRL) is currently inviting pre-proposals from faculty members or affiliates at Utah’s institutions of higher education for Plan Year 2021–22 of the Utah grant program funded through an annual grant award from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) as part of the federal Water Resources Research Act of 1984 (Program 104b), as amended. This program targets applied research that addresses water problems in Utah.

The proposed research should address one of the identified priority research needs or another area of benefit to the State of Utah. Preference will be given to research projects led by early career faculty and those that support graduate students. Pre-proposals are due at the UCWRR on or before November 1, 2020, 5:00 PM MST.
We anticipate that 3 to 5 research proposals will be submitted for funding based on budgets and research funds available. Typical awards are between $25,000 and $30,000 and must be matched with $2 (non-federal) to every $1 (USGS-federal). Selected full proposals will be due to the UCWRR by December 15, 2020 for submission within a combined USGS 104(b) proposal for the State of Utah. The project period for FY 2021 will be from March 1, 2021 through February 28, 2022.
Visit the UCWRR website OR download a PDF of the Request for Pre-Proposals here for guidelines on preparing and submitting pre-proposals.
NOTE: The funding for this grant is contingent upon congressional appropriations, and we have not yet received official notification of approval for federal support of the 2021 program. We anticipate the program being funded at the same level as FY 2020; however, reductions in funding and/or funding delays are possible.
